ATM limit

I know we are limited to 200 Euro per withdrawal at an ATM. But, the big question...can we do multiple withdrawals each day. We are in a dilemma. My purse was stolen with the major credit/debit cards. My husband has the one functioning ATM card (he will guard it well). We must pay everything in cash (including all those items I had hoped to buy here). Can someone tell me how much we can withdraw. Must we use different banks? We usually manage with little cash when we travel....this will be a new experience!

Hi,

I know my card/bank (the main one) allows me to make multiple withdrawals of the maximum amount.

But...I don't know if that depends ont the card+bank (I would guess it does...), with withdrawals in foreign countries (it should make a difference...) or if there is another limit for total daily amounts that I've never reached (it would make sense).

cheers,

miguel

Hi, EthelSue

with the risc of controversy, I think the atm at Casino de Lisboa have no limit for withdrawals. but don't forget most shops have electronic payments.

American Express due to the comissions is not accepetd in all stores.

Have a nice trip.

Yes its true: In the Casino, you can cash whatever amount you wish.

All other places, usually limited to 400/day, 200 each time, but depends on bank agreeement.

Is the exchange rate at the ATM in Casino de Lisboa the same as the rate you would get at a Bank ATM? I read on TA that the ATMs at the Lisbon Airport are all operated by the same company and not the banks. This appears similar to Heathrow - where the rate then is fixed and lower than ATMs operated by Banks outside the airport. Any thoughts on this?

The exchange rate may be the same but there may be an additional fee paid for using ATM's on private premises. That's similar to what you describe for Heathrow and something I have encountered elsewhere in the UK but not here.

I have never used an ATM in a Casino, so I don't know if there is a warning (as per the UK) to the effect that 'you will be charged a fee for using this machine'.

Can't imagine going to a casino on vacation. And if I did, can't imagine gambling away more than $20.00. Seems having an ATM machine there is for those who like to throw their money away.

The vast majority of ATM's in Portugal are run by SIBS, not the banks (even those located at a bank). So there's no particular fee related to the management. Don't see why it should be different at the Casino.
