Lisbon to Cascais

Hi,

I will be staying at the Roma hotel in Lisbon and was wondering if I could manage to take a train from here to Cascais. What is the travel time by train, is Cascais only about sandy shores? is the train station close to the hotel Roma?

thanks in advance

Hotel Roma is situated near the Entrecampos Train/Metro Station

From there you can get a Metro in Direction Rato, change to one Direction Stª. Apolonia and at Metro Station Baixa Chiado change for one for Rail Station Cais de Sodre.

Alternatively, you could walk to Areeiro Metro Station and get a train direct to Rail Station Cais de Sodre.

From Cais de Sodre there are frequent trains depending on the time of day/week to Cascais.

Cascais is not only about sandy shores but the train trip itself is worth it to see the Tagus estuary, the tower of Belem, Jeronimos Monastery and other sites of the greater Lisbon area.

Trip takes about 40 minutes each way.

We were in Lisbon last August and took the train to Cascais. As the previous post says it's not very far and relatively straight forward to get to. A very pleasant train ride out along the coast so sit on the left hand side of the train for the best sea views!

We had a walk round Cascais (lovely white washed buildings and lots of shops!)and then walked along the promenade with fantastic sea views to Estoril stopping for lunch in one of the sea front cafes followed by a quick dip from one of the lovely beaches on the way. Obviously depends what time of year you are going! Well worth it and not too far to walk. We then caught the train back from Estoril. If you've time Estoril is quite pleasant to stoll round in particular the casino gardens are worth a look.

Have fun!

You can catch the train to Cascais in Cais do Sodre. Beautiful ride. Here is a good website with information for Lisbon and Portugal in general. Enjoy your trip.

thanks a lot! your link was very helpful. We are staying at Hotel Roma in Lisbon, how far is that from the Belem tower, train station to get to Sintra/Cascais. Can you suggest some reasonable restaurants in the surrounding area of Hotel Roma please. Can I take a train from Lisbon to Sintra, I was hoping to do a day trip to Sintra.

Too many questions, thanks in advance!

The train line to Sintra is separate from the train line to Cascais.

For Sintra, you can leave from Entrecampos or Roma Stations near the hotel and change at Cacem for Sintra.
