Please Help! Where to GO!

We are coming from the U.S. to Algarve, and looking for an area that is not far from the beach , restaurants and shops. We have a large group ranging in age from 10-48yrs. We have teenagers and 20 somethings so need to keep everybody interested. I have been looking at Lagos and Albufeira, but dont know where is best.

You could also look at Praia da Rocha or Alvor. They are only about three miles apart and one option would be to stay in Alvor (which is a bit more civilised, but still lively enough) and let the youngsters go clubbing in Praia da Rocha if they feel the need for a really late night. It's only €5 by taxi.

Ik zou zeggen Albufeira en dan Hotel Brisasol ! Op loopafstand van strand en centrum, heeft een mooi binnen en buiten zwembad en een gameroom voor de tieners

Albufeira is the biggest and busiest resort in the region and has something for everyone.

There are more bars and clubs than will be good for the teenagers and 20 somethings. Know that 16 year olds can buy alcohol here, but some upmarket clubs have a minimum entry age of 18 or 21.

There are plenty more sedate establishments for those who prefer to tak rather than shout.

The beaches are all nice and sandy and guarded. (Same goes for the whole region.)

Some areas if Albufeira have a beach virtually on the doorstep but some are 2 miles from a beach, which might be a little inconvenient. Parking near several of the town beaches is either non existent or difficult.

Albufeira is like a typical spanish resort full of English , Portugal it is not.

No offence to the above poster, but if I took the family to Albufeira and it was our first time in the Algarve it would also be our last.

Lagos with its marina as well as the old town is not as commercialised and still retains some of its Portuguese charm..

I would suggest you stay you stay near the marina in Lagos.

You are close to one of the longest beaches in Europe, you have the watersports at the marina , and a nice stroll into town.

Either the marina club hotel which also has an apartment block opposite the hotel pool.

or you could rent apartments in the area via holidayrentals or ownerdirect.

a word of caution re the marina club 4* aparthotel.

All studios in the 4*Aparthotel building overlook the adjoining municipal facility/car park.

They, needless to say, don't tell you this. Some people on here dont see this as a problem. I personally do, it ruined our holiday and I think its right that you make your holiday decision with all the facts on the table.

Otherwise its a nice hotel in a great town.

I have stayed at the Marina club at least half a dozen times, visiting lagos for the last 25 years.

The Marina club is perfect for a first time in Lagos central for everything .

The above poster has endlessly posted the above .

With all respect to her , and others it is an idea to check where you are staying whether you want a pool view or a marina view or whatever.

Hopefully she has learnt a lesson..

If you are unsure about something just give the hotel a call, its really that simple.
