It is on a hill directly above the old town. Five minutes walk and 120 or so steps down and you are there. Downside is that it is 120 steps back up again or a long and not much less steep walk around by the road. Unfortunately the bus that runs past the door does not run in the uphill direction because of the one way streets.

Have you looked at the Rocamar? Its about 5 minutes walk to the old town square & gets very good reviews-fabulous views over the beach too!

Problem is that the whole area is very hilly. The recent old town is located along what was once a river valley with hills all around. The very old town was perched up on a little hill above the river by the sea, to defend itself from pirates, marauding Arabs and other unpleasant people.

The modern apartment hotels etc were built on the hills around the old town. Uphill walking is more or less unavoidable, but there are some at a similar distance where you can use the escalators up the cliff by the pier to take off the steepest bit.

Brisal Sol and Vila Galé Cerro Alagoa are in that category and both get good reviews. A bit further are Paladim, Sol Aqua. Varandas de Albufeira to name but three.

You could of course take taxis up the hill, but at 4 Euros for a 2 minute ride you might not consider that value for money! Ditto the bus (€1,40 each) or the tourist train (€2) but that goes from the top of the escalators, so you would have walked halfway already.

Down in the old town itself are the Turial Park Apartments. They would be a bit noisy if anything was going on the big open space outside, but at only 50 metres from the beach and in the flat part of town they couldn't be better placed.

Rocamar is a proper hotel. Right above the beach and superb views. Nearby is the Sol e Mar hotel, the only hotel in the old town actually on the beach.

It is expected to be rather wet tomorrow but better Wednesday, but still showery and likewise right on through the week. It doesn't often rain for long. For example the other day is was battering down from 7am to 11am then it stopped and the sun came out. By 1pm you would hardly have known it had been raining.
