old or new town

thinking of visiting in september, it will be our first holiday to portugal.

which part of albufeira should we choose. we would like nice restaurants and a choice of bars with some entertainment of a evening, but dont want nightclubs or 18 to 30s but not to quiet either.

cost is also a factor as this is going to be are cheapie holiday(we will have another 2 before this in march and july).

so somewhere that is not charging the earth for food and drink.

Better choose oldtown. Is much more typical and nice restaurants and bars in narrow streats.

New Albufeira ( Strip ) has a lot of young people by night and bars are very buzy.

There are a touristic train running between the 2 areas and is possibe go walking too ( more and less 30 minutes walking ).

Hi,

There aren´t many apartments in oldtown..., there are a few hotels and a few private apartments. Try to find one in ownersdirect or homeaway ( private apartments ).

Mostly of the apartmens are near Strip or in Montechoro area ( between olftown and strip but nearest Strip ).

Paraiso de Albufeira is a nice Hotel/apartments in oldtown with very good locacion. The hotel rooms are kitchet and there are 1 or 2 bedroom apartments.

I would recommend Forte do Vale. Lovely spacious modern apartments situated between the Old Town and the Strip (in walking distance of both).

Read the reviews on Trip Advisor for Forte do Vale. Its a great place to stay.

We book accomodation only through Monarch Hotels, their prices are very good.

Brisa Sol apartment hotel always gets good reviews. It's 7 or 8 minutes walk from the old town and beaches and only 3 or 4 minutes walk from a large shopping centre.

Forte do Vale is about 15 minutes walk or a short bus ride to the old town.

The Rocamar Hotel is directly above the elevator, but it only takes you down to the beach

rocamarhotels.com/en/rocamar-beach-hotel.html

There are escalators at the other end of old town on fisherman's beach, turial park apartments are near the escalators and 25 mtrs from beach. Never stayed in them so don't know what they are like, but to me they look a bit basic.

My preference is for the Old Town, there's a very good choice of bars and restaurants and a good choice between quiet and loud places to go. Whereas the Strip is just loud everywhere and is definitely aimed at the younger end of the market.

As far as accommodation goes, if you want to avoid the steps then you need to be looking at places heading towards the Strip side of the Old Town, rather than the other side of the Old Town Main Square. Maybe somewhere along or off of Avenida Infante Dom Henrique or Rua Gil Eanes.
