Long term winter rental

We're a couple in early 60's but v active and are looking for somewhere with other expats nearby but also with a real Portuguese feel. Some activities would be nice together with access to the beaches and areas to walk in safely. We've stayed in Tavira but this seemed a little quiet so maybe someplace slightly larger with decent restaurants and shops and maybe a cinema/theatre nearby. Perhaps nearer to Spain would have better weather and less wind ?

We'd be looking to stay for approx 6 weeks in Jan/Feb so what could we expect weather wise ?

If you find Tavira a little quiet you should not look nearer to Spain as it will be even quieter.

Have a look at Albufeira. It has a large expat community and will be alive enough during these months.

Have a look at the Oura Atlantico Apartements in Albufeira get the details from Booking.Com I know a lot of expats stay there near the beach shops around the corner and I believe the hotel manager doe a weekly run to the bigger supermarkets. You are on the bus route to the Old Town not sure about cinema but the hotel would have details on this.

The cinema near Albufeira closed down a month ago. The nearest cinemas to Albufeira are now either in Faro or Portimão.

Friends of mine are currently doing a long stay in Páteo Village apartments, 15 minutes walk into the old town, local shops nearby and big stores maybe a mile away. Should be worth a look.

Lagos will give you the same feel as Tavira.

Hi there, If you are looking for somewhere with a little life, good restaurants, beaches and easy walking to the town, then look no further than Lagos. We have a two bed luxury apartment just 5 minutes from the Marina and the old town. It has secure parking, indoor pool and gym, great little cafe in the same block serving excellent breakfasts and lunch. This complex is very popular with other 'long winter lets' and our apartment is available from mid October through to March. www.lagosapartment.eu
