Itinerary for Portugal - 11 nights

We would like to make sure we are doing the appropriate no. of nights in the places we are going to, and would appreciate a good summary of most important things to see and do.

Arriving in Porto - staying for 2 nights, thinking of the Pousada there.

Then going to Sintra for 2 nights, staying at Penha Longa - possibly golf one morning on the premises. I hear there is a nice course there.

Then take the train to Albufeira to stay at the Sheraton there for 3 nights. Will go into Lagos one day, and appreciate knowing if this is a good choice to stay in, or will we get more of a Portugese flavor (rather than a toursit flavor) if we stay in Lagos

4 nights in Lisbon - shall we stay at a pousada there, or were thinking of the Marriott. How far is the pousada from downtown Lisbon. Is it walking distance?

All suggestions welcomed and most appreciated.

Well, first question is will you have a car? It seems not because you're planning on taking the train to the Algarve. If the answer is no, why do you want to go to the Algarve?

The Pousadas are never downtown in the big cities. Porto Pousada it's in a magnificent palace but it's around 5km away from downtown. There's no Pousada in Lisboa, the closest are in Queluz (15 km from downtown Lisboa) or Cascais (30km from downtown Lisboa). If you want to play golf Penha Longa has a course and you'll be 8km away from Sintra.

There are lots of hotels to choose from in Lisbon. The Marriott isn't very central. If you're looking for luxury and charm, the Hotel da Lapa is gorgeous with a lovely garden, but it isn't cheap. It really depends what you want to pay, of course. If you want more detailed tips, do email if you like.
