train travel in Belgium

I am looking to do day trips to various cities in Belgium, using Brussels as my home base. Is it easy to travel by train or bus? Thanks for any help with this!

1. Re: train travel in Belgium

By train, from Bruxelles-Nord, Bruxelles-central or Bruxelles-Midi. There are hardly any inter-city buses in Belgium and those there (e.g. Brugge-Ghent) take 4 times as long as trains because their purpose is to serve the towns and villages in between.

See www.belgianrail.be or, for timetables only, http://www.railtime.be/website/train-schedule - remembering that you have to use French/Dutch versions of station names, e.g. Brugge, Gent St. Pieters, Antwerpen-Centraal.
