Procession of the Holy blood -what is open/closed; where to

I just found about this parade/holiday. What types of businesses are open or closed on this day? How about for dinner/beer? Where is the best place to watch the parade?

Thank you

Hi,

Find the Holy Blood procession leaflet over here, at events: http://foto.brugge.be/publicaties/

The flyer contains some background information, today's program, ticket prices and the route of the parade.

Today is a public holiday, which means all shops are closed, with the exception of tourist shops.

Restaurants are open.

ATTRACTIONS

Sightseeing tours by minibus: only at 10h00, 11h00 and 12h00, departing from the Market square. All other tours are canceled because of the procession.

No sightseeing tour to Damme today, usually departs at 16h00.

Horse carriages: until 12h30 and then again in the evening from 18h00 till 22h00. No tours during the day because of the procession.

Boat tours: operate as usual, every half an hour. During the procession (14h30 - 18h00) there will be no explanation on the boat tours, where the boats cross the route of the procession. It's only a small section where the two meet, so you'll miss about 5 to 10 minutes of information.

MUSEUMS

Townhall and Church of Our Lady are closed all day.

All other Municipal Museums (Belfry, Groeninge, Old St. John's hospital aka Memling museum, Sound Factory, Folklore museum, Gentpoort towngate museum, windmill St. Janshuis, Gezelle museum, OLV-Ter Potterie museum, Archeology, Arentshuis, Gruuthuse museum and Liberty of Bruges) close at 13h00 for the rest of the day. Last entrances are at 12h30. Belfry has the last entrance at 12h15.

Private museums (Choco-Story, Belgian Fries, Lumina Domestica, Diamond, beer brewery Halve Maan, Dalí, Picasso) are open.

Lace center is closed all day.

Best place to watch the parade: from the grandstand of course, on the Market square. Find ticket prices in the leaflet.

Along the route, in the streets, is free. Be there well in advance, as it will get crowded.

Enjoy your day!!

Kindest regards,

Sabrina

Tourist shops (chocolate, lace, ....) will be open.

It will be very, very crowdy, busy.

You can watch the procession for free in the streets (Smedenstraat - Vrijdagmarkt – ’t Zand – Zuidzandstraat – Steenstraat – Simon Stevinplein – Mariastraat – Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk – Guido Gezelleplein – Dijver – Wollestraat – Markt – Vlamingstraat – Jakob Van Ooststraat – Kuipersstraat – Geldmuntstraat – Noordzandstraat – ’t Zand.)

In my opinion there is no 'best place' (sun? shadow? .....) It's obvious when you arrive early you can watch it from the first line .

I thinkt it's possible to buy tickets for a seat (€4.00 or €12.00 ?) in advance a few hours before 14.30h.

All restaurants, bars, cafés, are open.

Enjoy !

OEPS ! SABRINA was quicker....

Yeah, about the tickets...

Tourist office on 't Zand square - open 10h00 to 14h00: 12 euro and 4 euro

Stalls on Market square (post office) and along Dijver (in front of Gruuthuse museum) - open as of 12h00 till tickets are sold out: 15 euro and 5 euro

So, if you wish to buy tickets, do so at the tourist office, where they are cheaper.

Just a suggestion ;)
