Roadworks in Ghent

I have read a lot about roadworks in Ghent and Tram lines being replace, but much of this info is not dated. Any one who lives there or has been recently can update me.

Thanks

Phil

No problems with roadworks.

Major works were undertaken in the center of Ghent but are now complete(and very nice it looks too)

Here's a current (27 November) view of Korenmarkt, with Christmas market stalls just arrived: www.nieuwsblad.be/article/detail.aspx…

Note that there is still a lot of work in progress around Gent St. Pieters station (projectgentsintpieters.be/voorstelling-proje…)

Post 1 indicates the major works were completed back before November 2013.

There are no major problems currently.

Well there are, but none that would concern or inconvenience a tourist.

Just spent four days in Ghent. The roadworks are still in full swing. We went in search of recommended veggie restaurants and found Cusine Ouverte (Annonciadenstraat) was closed due to roadworks. Further up the street, the frituur in Papegaaistraat (also recommended for vegetarians) was - you guessed it - closed due to roadworks. Both are recommended in the tourist information office's "veggie Ghent" handout, so the roadworks certainly do impact on tourists. Also the roads all round our hotel (NH Belfort) were being dug up and as soon as one road reopened another was closed off, and of course it was too noisy to leave the bedroom windows open because the work started early and ended late.
