Late autumn accommodation query

Hi,

Husband and I are planning 3 nights in Ghent in Late October to mid November this year (yes know its cold, dark and some places will be shut) probably coming Eurostar from London.

We like to stay in B&Bs; if we wander into the Tourist Information centre can we just find a place to stay on arrival without any problems?

We have in the past arrived in what seemed sleepy villages and towns to find their "Big Annual Major Fun Event And Swinging Time" in full sail and accommodation all booked up. Is there anything on the regular Ghent calendar I should know about?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

The big event in Ghent is the Gentse Feesten in July, there should be no pressure on tourist accommodation in Oct/Nov. For the rest, see http://www.visitgent.be/en/kalender and you can download "Ghent in your Pocket" from inyourpocket.com/Belgium/Ghent/Arriving/Tour…

All the same, in order to assess what the Tourist Office - which closes at 16:30 at that time of year - might be offering you, you might want to research possible places yourself on e.g. http://www.booking.com/city/be/gent.en.html - or indeed on TA, see for example tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188666-d317718…

In november normaly nothing will be closed, exept if you want to do some shopping. In Belgium shops are not open on public holidays (1st and 11th november) and on sundays.

Ghent is allways quite busy, and only a ghosttown alike the week after the Gentse Feesten (a 10 day festival)

The OP may be interested in watching the 6 Day and may be able to visit Ghent very slightly later than they originally specified.

Now children, be nice.

It turns out we shall be in Ghent in the first week of October, to fit in with a French cigar box guitar festival that M. Unclefay must needs go to. He also wants a day trip to Mons to visit a WW2 resistance fighter who helped his father, an allied airman. I expect we will go by train.

I have booked a B&B.

Thank you all for your offerings.

:-)
