Ghent to American War Cemetery

We plan on taking a day trip from Bruges to Ghent on May 20. We would also like to travel to the American War Cemetery in Waregem. We would like to arrive in Ghent, continue on to the cemetery for a short visit and return to spend the remainder of the day in Ghent before returning to Bruges.Would this be done by train or bus and would we need a cab to reach the cemetery? How long would the train or bus take to reach the Waregem area? Thanks for any advice or tips!

As May 20 is a Monday, you can get bus no. 58 from outside Waregem Station directly to the cemetery.

Ask the driver to put you off the bus at the stop Waregem Bosstraat, which is near the cemetery entrance, and just after the bus has passed over the E17 motorway.

Type in "Waregem Bosstraat" into Google and you can see the area in Google street view.

If you are arriving in Gent, you can buy an all day ticket for €5.00 which would be valid on the buses and trams there, and also on bus no. 58 between Waregem Station and the cemetery.

You can also buy a De Lijn day pass in Brugge, from the De Lijn office (Lijnwinkel) outside Brugge station, before taking the train to Ghent, which would be particularly useful if you would already be taking a bus from your hotel to the station. You can buy it from the bus driver too, but in that case it will cost €7 instead of €5 (so it would be cheaper to buy the day pass from the DL office the day before - it doesn't start running until you validate it in the machine on board the first bus you take).

De Lijn runs buses and trams throughout Flanders so you can use their day cards and multi-trip passes in different Flemish towns.

See delijn.be/en/…index.htm (and for prices, http://www.delijn.be/vervoerbewijzen/types/dagpas/index.htm#prijs)

I have zero public transportation experience so I'm a little overwhelmed with all the rail and bus details. I realize you all get asked this type thing repeatedly so I'm extremely appreciative of all your willingness to help!
