Shipping Items to the U.S.

I can't find the answer to this question via the forum search. I am hoping someone here will be able to help me.

Later this month I have a working trip in Brussels. I'm concerned about shipping back all of our A/V equipment. Usually when we are overseas it is at a trade show, and return shipping is part of the package. In this case, we are running a series of classes and will have to ship all our projectors and laptops back.

I have no idea how it works in Belgium, but in the states I would simply pick up shipping forms at the desk, tape them to the boxes, and call FedEx for a pickup. Of course, that wouldn't take care of customs fees or anything so ...

Anyone have any advice for me on this? I'm pretty lost.

Thanks!

I would adivse you to contact specialised firms in Belium, like DHL, FedEX etc. They have their own websites.

Funnily enough, that is pretty much what we would do too. There are no customs duties or anything on exports, but if your equipment will have come in on a Temporary Admission (ATA) carnet or something, you will need the services of a customs agent (broker) to deal with re-export. All international courier companies are also customs agents, here's a list of such services in Brussels:

Hello depends what the quantity is. If you have only one or 2 small pcs, simply take it as luggage well packed.

If it is more, you can use of course courier services such as DHL or Fedex or TNT. (DHL being one of the major in Brussels airport)

If the quantity is really important would suggest you contact a airfreight consolidator or (sea) shipping consolidator. There are several at Bru cargo (Brussels Zaventem airport) an example is "Ecu Air" +32 (0)2 751 54 13. For maritime you will need to contact people in Antwerp of course, example "Ecu Line" (info@eculine.be tel 32 (0)3 541 24 66 ) one of the major consolidators in this port.

Note that shipping it as cargo will be cheaper as courier service.

Do not forget to take an insurance!

Thanks to all. I think I'll be going with DHL.

This is an excellent city forum, by the way, thanks again!
