dark chocolate

Hi,

I'm looking for good dark chocolate pralines to bring back as gifts for family and friends. I've heard of some chocolatier making dark chocolate with champagne pralines -- is that true? I'm looking for place that is not too expensive but with good price/quality ratio (if any really expensive places are worth it I will definitely splurge at least for gifts for the family ^-^)

Thank you!

From what I know, Godiva and Neuhaus both have Champagne truffles. Godiva has one kind of praline with it.

I seemed to remember that Galler had a chocolate bar with campagne mousse filling but I'm nit sure if they still have it. Their store is very close to th Grand'Place so, you won't have any trouble finding it. Godiva has a store right on the Grand'Place while Neuhau's flagship store is in the Galleries Saint-Hubert.

Good luck!

I think your best bet may be Neuhaus, they do a "snobinette champagne", see: www.neuhaus-chocolates.com/index.asp…

Godiva's champagne truffles mix dark and milk chocolate: godiva.be/products/…

So do those of Marcolini, being rolled in cocoa even if they have milk chocolate inside, see marcolinichocolatier.com/2_1_2_5_Truffles.htm BUT this says their champagne truffles are the best: http://www.thenibble.com/zine/archives/pierre-marcolini-gourmet-belgian-chocolate.asp; not surprisingly, they are not cheap - their shop in the Sablon is like a jewellers (there's another under the Conrad Hotel).

I believe Wittamer also do a champagne truffle and they are also in the Sablon - however they don't seem to have much more than an address on their webpage:

http://www.wittamer.com/

Leonidas offers a good price-quality ratio, but their champagne truffles are in white chocolate: http://www.cardullos.com/leonidas.htm

The most expensive chocolatier in Brussels is supposed to be Mary in rue Royale, however while they have various dark chocolate liqueurs they don't seem to have anything with a champagne filling, you can look for yourself on http://www.mary.be/en/chocolates.html
