Thanks again to Amboseli and Gaminari who answer endless questions and made traveling in Belgium so much easier.
Took the train from Brugge to Antwerp Central. Easy to do with no problems. If you have large luggage the only place to store it is by the doors. Carry on size luggage fits above the seats. It was a 20 minute walk from Central to Hotel Julien. We took a taxi because of the luggage. It was 10 euros. People at the train stations all across Belgium were friendly, helpful.
Wonderful Hotel Julien. I hate to write how wonderful it is but sharing is what this forum is all about. Its so incredibly perfect with a great staff. The breakfast in the morning was the best we've ever had. Perfect, central location to all the sites and shopping.
Antwerp is a fun, energetic city. Tons to eat, great Belgium beer, and friendly folk all around who all speak English. Antwerp reminded me of Amsterdam. Cobblestone streets, lots of history and endless shopping. Shopping addicts be careful Antwerp is a shoppers meca. We spent 4 days here and could have spent a week just shopping. Took a tour of the Rubens house which was very interesting. The maritime display was fun and walking along the river at night was romantic.
Antwerp isn't as polished as Brugge but its a wonderful walking city with lots of history and its fun. Will return next year.
Took a day trip to Gent and enjoyed it. Took the train to Brussels for an evening to see the Palace. We both liked Antwerp and Brugge better.
