additional cities

My husband and I will be traveling to Belgium in about two weeks and have narrowed down our itinerary to Brussels, Gent, Ieper, Bruges and Antwerp, usually 2-3 days in each location. Knowing we will be traveling only by rail, do you have other cities to suggest? We are interested in history, culture, and visiting some brew houses

Hello

Liège is easily accessible by train and is nice. Close to it is Aachen, in Germany but a very lovely city.

Smaller cities like Lier or Leuven are also beautiful - maybe you don't have to stay there the night and do daytrips, in order to save packing, time travelling to and fro your hotel with luggage (depending how many you have)... if you go to too many places, maybe you'll get bored to unpack...

Breweries by train, I don't know.

Have fun !

There are breweries you can visit in 4 of the 5 cities you mention, namely Brussels (Cantillon), Ghent (Gruut), Brugge (De Halve Maan) and Antwerp ('t Pakhuis - reviewed here as a restaurant: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g188636-d740342-Reviews-T_Pakhuis-Antwerp_Antwerp_Province.html).

Other cities which are easily accessible by train and have breweries you can visit as individuals (many only accept groups) are Leuven (Domus - and of course InBev, the brewer of Stella) and Mechelen (Het Anker: http://toerisme.mechelen.be/en/3496/content/8945/guided-tour-of-het-anker-brewery.html)
