Two hours

Is there something we could do in two hours close to the station, We will be in town on a Monday morning in Winter so going by what is on here most things are closed. We are happy to just go for a walk but can't work out how far the station is from the town.

Thank you :-)

Hi Michele,

Are you meaning Amersfoort or Amsterdam? For Amersfoort, the station is about 10 mins walk from the town centre. But you pass by one of the most beautiful old monuments in town, the old water-gate (Koppelpoort is the Dutch name as far as I remember); and for the rest there's also a few pieces of old city wall, churches etc. to admire.

If you mean Amsterdam, have a look at the 'once in town' parts of this faq

All the best,

It is about 20 minutes walk from the station to the centre. Amersfoort is actually one of the few Dutch cities (or maybe the only one?) in which the station is not directly in the centre.

Anyway, you should have just enough time to see the city centre (which is quite nice).

From the railway station follow the signs for 'VVV-kantoor' (Tourist Information)- on Mondays open from 11.00 am, which is located nearby 'Lieve Vrouwekerkhof' with the so called 'Lange Jan'.

Ask a map of the town and walk around in the quaint city centre and visit at least 'Het Hof' and the 'Koppelpoort'.

happy travel

Amersfoort, my home town, is well and truly closed on a Monday morning. The lovely medieval center, which is well worth walking around, is actually about 10 minutes walk from the station (out the front entrance and turn left) but don't expect anything to be open.
