Daytrip to Haarlem

I have an uncle who lives in Haarlem and we are going to have dinner with him when we come to visit next week. I was just wondering what is the best way to get from Haarlem Central Station to the Grotemarkt??

Should we walk or do they have a little bus in Haarlem? We don't mind walking if there is something to see along the way.

We are going to see the market on Monday and the church, what else is there to do in that area? I heard there was pretty good shopping?

Only a few more days to go!!!!

Oh, also, what would be the fastest way to get from the Westerkerk to Centraal Station?

I guess we could walk from the Westerkerk. Are there many shops along the way?

Thank you!

Tram 13 or 17 to Centraal Station , chemmie. Its not that far , around 15 mins walk. There are a few shops , bars and restaurants en route ... more if you cross Dam Square and head up Damrak........ geoff

It is a 10 minute walk from the station to Grote Markt. No need to take a bus. A few stores along the way and easy to find from the station.

If you go on Monday, the museums may be closed; check first.

Haarlem is a delightful day-trip ( or more ) from Amsterdam.

Like tgv2 says, Grote Markt is close to the Haarlem station (about 1.1 km). Just follow the Kruisweg and Kruisstraat.

The bus station is in front of the station, but there are no bus stops really close to Grote Markt - should you decide to take a bus, you will still have to walk a bit.

Grote Markt (marketplace) is close to a lot of shops; you could also go to the Teylers Museum, Hollands oldest museum (www.teylersmuseum.nl).

Haarlem is very easy to navigate as long as you have some kind of map. You can print one off www.mappy.com and make your way from the train station to Grotemarkt..

Here is a nice 'walk' with some photos described for you to follow:
