Train or bus to Zaanse Schans?

What's the best way to get to Zaanse Schans. Is there anywhere close by/on the way we should also visit if we make a day of it?

Train from Centraal Station to Koog-Zaandijk station, and from there an easy walk - 15 minutes- to Zaanse Schans (including crossing the bridge over de Zaan-river, with spectacular views over Zaanse Schans, the windmills and historic Zaandijk.

Train takes approx 15 minutes. Should you really want to stop in between; for some the new Inntel Hotel in Zaandam (next to the station) is a modern landmark in "Neo-Zaan style" (Google images for Inntel Zaandam)

Some suggest to take the train + walk to get there, which gives nice views apparently. And you can take the bus back which starts closer to the site.

(I only visited by bike once.)

You can go have a look at the Zaan Inn hotel at Zaandam Central Station while you're in the neighborhood, just google images.

And/ or rent bikes at Zaanse Schans and do one of their suggested rides in the countryside around it.

Sorry the nice looking hotel is indeed Inntel, not Zaan Inn.

There's also a bus route from Amsterdam Centraal Station, the 391.

An all-day Zaanstreek ticket is €10 from the driver. The Amsterdam & Region Day Ticket is also valid on this service.

Yeah that's the bus I referred to in post #2. For the way back maybe.
