On the road to Oosterhesselen

I may drive to Oosterhesselen from the airport, and then to Amsterdam. Is there a place that would be nice to stop for lunch, or to look around, on either leg of the drive?

Hi there,

E.g. Zwolle has a nice historic town centre, and Apeldoorn has lovely entertainment parks and forest areas and even a royal palace. Both have an abundanc of restaurants.

All the best,

Most places are generally pretty - but maybe Zeewolde or Zwolle could be? Walibi is also on the way.

If you're driving you can stop in small towns, instead of Zwolle I would suggest the super cute Hattem. Just google image it.

Both are medieval Hansa towns and Zwolle also has a picturesue center but is a bigger town as a whole; Hattem is even more charming and has plenty of lunch places to choose from.

Or do one on the way over and the other on the way back.

Or go to Kampen or Hasselt, two other of the seven medieval Hansa towns.

By the way, possibly you were already planning this, but Westerbork is an interesting / impressive place to visit, it was a transit camp in WWII.

Beilen is also a cute town. Their home pastry is called 'kontjes' which means little bums. Supposedly very tasty.

And Dwingelderveld is a beautiful nature reserve (by Dutch = low standards).
