Good neighborhood for Irish expat (6 month stay)?

Hi all: I'm moving over to Amsterdam from Cork in Ireland for a 6 to 12 month stay for work. It's my wife and me and our little girl (4 years old). Any recommendations on neighborhoods that would be good? We're sort of looking at Old Zuid, New Zuid, and Amstelveen (as I'll be working in Amstelveen, so would like short tram or bike commute if possible). Moving over in June or July.....any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

I wouldn't really recommend Amstelveen, its quite boring. The centre and old south (Oud Zuid) are the best. The Pijp area of Oud Zuid is very lively and international. Nieuw Zuid is somewhat dull. The Jordaan is all round the best neighbourhood in town, the Plantage is quiet, central, and green.

cheers, Kevin
