1 day layover

We will be in Amsterdam about 12 hours, morning to early evening. We would like to do a tour, probably something like Van Gogh and Anne Frank. Any suggestions or advice on how to go about it?

sure, catch a train and come on into town...you might want to buy anne frank tickets in advance to avoid the line...and a canal boat tour is recommended.

Thanks, so the best way is to get into town on your own and take it from there . . . either by bus or cab?

I would only add that it's not a bad idea to purchase Van Gogh tickets online in advance as well, because the line to purchase tickets at the museum itself can sometimes be a long one too.

Take bus 197 in the direction of Leidseplein if you are going to the Van Gogh first. Exit Museumplein.

If you are going to the Anne Frank House first, take the train to the Central Station. It is a 1.5 km walk or 20 minutes.

From the AFH to the VG it is a 2.3 km walk or 30 minutes.

Reverse the process to return to the airport.
