If for whatever reason atm is not your wish then convert cash at Pott's Exchange on Damrak close to Dam Sq. One of the better rates in town.

Good point Matty! Nowadays lots of banks block cards for use overseas as a standard, and you need to ask them to unblock it. And it could also help if they know you're going to Europe so they don't find the ATM withdrawals suspicious and block your account.

I have a question regarding Dutchguys link..

One of the tips was "ATMs are widely available throughout the city, dispensing notes up to 50 Euro."

Does this mean 50 euros is the max we can get at a time? Or that's the max denomination of a bill they will dispense?

NO,, your daliy limit is still the same as in the US, my bank is 700 usd a day,, i always take 500 euro at a time,, just so i dont rack up a lot of fees,,

also about your atm card, make sure its a 4 digit (numbers only) pin,
