How mobile are you and how much luggage? For me, I would walk it. You could take the #4, 9, 16, 24, or 25 tram to the Spui (Rokin) stop and walk over on the Gimburgwal which is a cute little street.

Take a taxi. Around €10. Tram will be €5,40 so it is not really worth the extra hassle to save a few euros.

In case you decide to walk, it's about 15 minutes: http://goo.gl/maps/IEXwV (that route has the least cobblestones and obstructions; other streets are narrower and may be very crowded with tourists depending on the time of day).

Enjoy Amsterdam!

Well it's Google Maps that came up with that route ;-) (and I didn't change it.) It'll be nice to come across Nieuwmarkt on your walk.

If you have a smartphone, download an offline map before your trip or use the one in the Tripadvisor app or the iamsterdam app (those apps also have more than just an offline map). That way you will be able to see where you are and navigate to your hotel just like in Google Maps but without needing data roaming.

Other useful apps are suggested here. iamsterdam.com/en-GB/…amsterdam-apps
