Anyone Familiar with Tulip Cycling?

Hi there!

Developing a family cycle trip through The Netherlands this summer.

I came across Tulip Cycling & there website looks like what we might be after: rent very nice bikes, pick up and deliver our luggage to B&B's, and we don't have to return bikes .

Is anyone familiar with this company? Used them?

Also, I posted yesterday asking whether anyone had a recommendation for a half-way B&B between Amsterdam and Masstrict---but, I've heard from no one.

But, I'll throw it out again, can anyone recommend a B&B and town to stop before Eidhoven?

Thank you so much,

Hi, we took Tulip Cycling about 4 years ago, we did a three-day cycling trip based in a lovely hotel in Schoenhoven in the Gouda area-everyday we did about a 45 kilometers circuit ( there were longer rides and you could do inn-to-inn tours). They are a lovely family-run business. My son was three and a half at the time and rode in a chair as I recall--or maybe it was on his first tagalong? I am trying to remember. We do a tour every year in Europe but Tulip Cycling definitely has the best bikes, best maps, best rain equipment, panniers, etc., that we have seen on our bike trips. We did the Passau-Vienna Danube trail, great fun with a child on a tag-along and downhill for 392 kilometers, and we did Lake Constance for 13 days 2 years ago, both with other companies. But the equipment from other companies is not comparable to Tulip Cycling. They are a small personal operation, of very high quality. I am sure if you use them you will be quite pleased. Oh, our trip was self-guided, so I do not know what their tour groups are like, but the family was very very nice, so I imagine their tour guides would be good.

Thank you so much.

I have already booked with them, because their responses to me & my questions were excellent.

Our family of 4 decided to go with Tulip because we, too, want to do a private tour, not a group guided tour.

We are going for three days, through the countryside, from Amsterdam down to Maastricht.

Tulip has been great with every detail so far.

Mapping, suggesting places to stay.

Nice to know more details: bikes, gear, mapping.

Thank you again.

I'll let TA know how this all turns out.

We are very excited.

Tulip cycling has great service.

We used Tulip Cycling for a self guided tour of Netherlands in July 2010. We met the van outside of Amsterdam to avoid the traffic. We met in Abcoude and picked up the bikes. The company rented the bikes, locks, panniers, handelbar bags, maps and GPS with our route. We chose to stay at Inn on the Lake in Breuk in Waterland and Hotel de Fortuna in Edam. We asked them for recommendations for a stay in Alkmaar and they suggested Familie Hotel. It was a great choice.

We loved the bikes and stopped once in Hoorn for an airhose instead of the little frame pump supplied. But that is not a shortcoming.

The route they chose for us was great. We rode down back roads and watched the neat Dutch countryside as we rode by. I am very pleased with the great roads they chose for us.

The company representative was exactly on time to drop off the bike as well as pick it up in Weesp at the end of our route. We will use this company again next time we go back to Netherlands.

I echo what the other posters have said about Tulip Cycling. My family took a 5 day self-guided tour of the Netherlands with them in August 2010 (we travelled with our three children aged 14, 12 and 9). Everything was just as promised ... excellent communication with Mieke via e-mail beforehand, Mieke showed up where and when she said she'd meet us with our bikes and other equipment, terrific routes on safe back roads from Haarlem to Leiden to Delft to Gouda to Utrecht and then to Amersfoort where we met Gerben to return our gear and head into Amsterdam. We cycled about 40 km a day with just one set of paniers between us. We used their luggage transfer service and that was a real treat!

They booked our accommodations (we asked for4 / 5 star hotels / B&B's) and we were satisified. With the exception of Utrecht, the hotels were in historic buildings in the centre of the towns, with friendly staff and great breakfasts and safe storage of our bikes. In Utrecht, they booked us into a 3 bedroom apartment on the outskirts of town ... the location wasn't great, but the spaciousness of the apartment and the ability to cook dinner and breakfast and just relax more than made up for the fact that the neighbourhood wasn't that exciting.

I would definitely recommend them.

Hi! I did use Tulip Tours last August, but not on an escorted tour. Our family of four used them to hire bikes, GPS, telephones & help us to map out a three day trip from Amsterdam south to Maastricht. The company was wonderful, reasonable, and reliable. They also recommended BB's along the route & picked up & dropped off our luggage each day & evening.

I know there are other bike companies who take you on an escorted trip & Tulip Tours does them as well. You should email Tulip & someone will get back to you quickly. They were very good at communicating with me from my original inquiries to the end of the trip.

Hope this helps.

My sister and I just did a 3-day cycling trip with Tulip Cycling. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The route from Zwolle to Arnhem was delightful - a good combination of pastureland, little villages, medieval cities, dikes, waterways and windmills together with national parks which feature velds and woodlands. Points of interest (museums, palaces etc) were identified, and our route went by most of them so we could stop off and go see them. Mid-late May is a very good time to cycle in Holland - warm enough with lots of greenery and flowers. Peter, of Tulip Cycles, provided excellent service - responsive, reliabel and thorough, not to mention friendly and informative. Equipment was sound. We had a GPS and a map guidance system, which was meticously plotted out. Our accomodations (B&Bs) were good value for money. Would definitely recommend them and most certainly would give them our business again.

We did a medieval 4 city tour with Tulip Cycling this Easter. Everything about the holiday was impeccably managed. Manager Peter Voss left nothing to chance; we rather fancied he even arranged for us to have nice weather. The routes were beautiful and varied, the B&Bs were of uniform high standard throughout. Fantastic. Book with confidence.

Our holiday in the Netherlands with Tulip Cycling was extraordinary. It is a superbly run company and immensely responsive to any of your inquiries. It was, quite simply, our favorite vacation we have ever taken. You can easily share a sense of our experience by viewing these two clips:
