Where to stay in Montreux/Vevey area?

Sorry for posting this twice - meant to post it the first time in the Montreux forum but it went in the general Swiss forum by mistake -

I am planning this years holiday hopefully around Montreux/Vevey area but not sure where to stay. Have been looking at the tourist office websites which are good for trips in the region, museums etc but not the things I'm looking for to narrow it down. I'd be grateful if anyone can help. We are a family of 3, Mum, Dad and 4 year old boy. Things which would be very helpful in deciding where to go are:

Any small parks in the town with slides etc for children?

Which would be best for a morning walk/breakfast for Mum and son while Dad has a lie in - cafes somewhere on the lakeside with boats (hopefully coming and going), a couple of interesting things to look at on the way.

Proximity of a swimming pool, probably for 3 or 4 visits - I see there is one in Clarins but not sure how easy this is from Montreux or whether Clarins itself is a possibility.

Somewhere close by (if any such places exist) for a safe paddle/swim in the lake if it is warm enough.

Doesn't have to be a big town but would like a few cafes/shops. Don't mind if very quiet at night as we won't be going out in the evenings!

Are any places much better than others for boat/train transport links?

I am looking for an apartment, 2 bedroom in town hopefully with a lake view so would be grateful for any recommendations - although that is secondary as I can probably find one once I have narrowed the choice of towns/villages a little.

We stayed in Brunnen on Lake Lucerne last year which was great - had everything we were looking for (but would like to go somewhere different this year) so if anyone knows anywhere like that in the area that would be ideal.

Thanks in advance if anyone can give any information

Hi again,

Not sure if you also saw this site:

It's where I found the studio I rented in Clarens in 2007. (But I can NOT recommend this studio.)

Here is where I would stay if I could afford it:

La Tour-de-Peilz is a wonderful spot. Quiet and lovely but just steps from the bustle and commerce of Vevey's central square. Steps, too, from the bus that runs between Villeneuve and Vevey.

There are small parks all up and down the lakesdie promenade, from Morges to Villeneuve, though I don't recall seeing any slides.

Every town along the lake has a ferry dock and train station, though of course the smaller places (Rivas, as discussed, Cully, Territet, etc) will only have the local trains stopping.

Hope you find something good!

Hi,me again, here are a few thoughts to things that you might do in the Vevey/Montreux area:

There are two good child friendly museums, the Chareau in La Tour de Peilz (20 minute walk along the waterfront from the Vevey market place, with small playparks along the way) hosts the Swiss Museum of Games (www.museedujeu.com/site/index.php…). The cafe in the grounds of the chateau is lovely and the views from the main tower are worth the climb. On the walk to the museum from Vevey you'll have walked past a giant fork standing in the waters of the lake. The building opposite this is the Allimentarium (http://www.alimentarium.ch/en/home.html), a nestle foundation food museum. When I was there at the weekend with my 6 year old son they were holding madeline cake making workshops which was excellent and my boy thoroughly enjoyed the experience of making and then eating cakes in french! You should also visit Chateau de Chillon (http://www.chillon.ch/en/) in Montreux, accesible by both train, bus or ferry.

Another option is to ascend on the cog train the mountain of Rocher de Naye which stands above Montreux. The summit has great views over the mountains and the Lake, it has a restaurant and also "marmot paradise" (www.mob.ch)

Some useful transport links are www.sbb.ch for trains and http://www.cgn.ch/eng for ferries.

There's also a nice spa at Levey le Bain(http://www.lavey-les-bains.ch/) and there is another water park at Bouveret which includes a childrens indoor water based pool area (http://www.swissvapeur.ch/index_e.htm)

Hope this is useful

Sorry, gave you the wrong link to the aqua park in Bouveret. You actually need http://www.aquaparc.ch/2007/index_e.html
