If you are talking about the route from Pontresina to Tirano it is open and you can buy ticket online already. The winter schedule for other routes is not out yet. Maybe in a month or so.

Thank you for your response. I am referring to the Full Bernina Express from Chur to Lugano. I have booked a tour with Bernina Express on 27.12.2013 as part of my itinerary. After paying my booking fee, I was told by the agency that they are unable to book Bernina Express. Last year there was no Bernina Express service between 22nd to 29th December. May I know whether annually there is no Bernina service around that time or it was only last year that there was no Bernina Express service during Christmas. I really hope to experience Bernina Express.

3. Re: Bernina Express

okay, first of all, the Bernina Express is actually consist of 2 different lines (routes), one is from Tirano, Italy to St. Moritz (Pontressina) over the Bernina Pass, and the other Albula line connects at St. Moritz and go down to Chur. Between Tirano and Lugano is actually by bus. I don't know why there was no service last year between 22md to 29th December, maybe there was some work being done on the line. But as I mentioned before, the schedule for the route from Tirano to Pontressina or reverse is out and you can book now. The Albula line which will take you from St. Moritz to Chur down the other side of the mountain is not out yet and when it is out then maybe you will see if 27th December is ok.

We will be taking Glacier Express from Zermatt on 25th December, 2013 and alight Glacier Express at Chur. We will be staying 2 nights in Chur (ABC Hotel). We hope to cover Chur on the day of arrival and do a day trip to St.Moritz via Landquart, Klosters & Filisur line. The next morning, we will take Bernina Express to Lugano.

Kindly advise what and how to cover St.Moritz during our day trip on 26th December.

We will be spending 2 nights in Lugano (Novotel Hotel). We plan to cover Gandria and Factory Outlet in Foxtown. Can you pls adivse how to cover that?

After Lugano, we will go to Zurich and fly to London the next day. Our flight is in the evening.

Our tour includes a 15 days Swiss Pass for each member.

We would be very grateful for your tips and advice as this is an un-escorted tour. The information we gathered from internet is not comprehensive.

Once again thank you very much for your kindness.

In St. Moritz, you can walk around the lake, it's very beautiful in winter, take a horse carriage ride, walk uphill to the village, window shop, depend on how much time you have go up to Corviglia check out the skiing scene.

Gandria can be reached by boat or bus and Foxtown as well, you can check with the hotel when you get there and see what is the best option for you at that time.

Have a good trip and enjoy..........

ahhongg, your itinerary in your post 5 unfortunately does not make a lot of sense. If you plan to make a day trip to St. Moritz and back on 26th to stay overnight in Chur and the next day you want to travel the Bernina Express, you will backtrack the part Chur St. Moritz several times. Engadin St. Moritz is on your way and the STARTING point of the Bernina line. From St. Moritz to Chur this is the Albula line, an extension of the original Bernina Express and part of the Glacier Express as well (included in the UNESCO World heritage site Albula/Bernina).

The other extension of the Bernina Express is a bus (once a day) connecting to Lugano DURING THE SUMMER season only (as the Ticino/Lugano area is not very much frequented in winter, it's a summer destination). The Bernina bus is operated from End of March until the end of the summer timetable (seasonal change around October 20) only.

The original Bernina Express is operated year-round, however you would not necessarily have to take the "express" (optional reservation fee), you could as well take any local train on this line (included in your pass and no reservation) - it takes the same time, is on the same track and thus has the same views and there is one train per hour usually.

For all relevant information about the Bernina Express use this page: www.rhb.ch/Bernina-Express.2188.0.html?&L=4 During the holiday-period make sure to check timetables carfully, as official holidays are operation on the sunday-schedule.

If you plan to visit Engadin St. Moritz http://www.engadin.stmoritz.ch/winter/en/ during this trip, be aware of the fact that this is top season here and thus the prizes are on top and most hotels will want you to stay for a week or even 10 days. To find an option for just a day or two, book ASAP and see what you might get. Use the booking tool on the linke above (right-hand side) to get all the options. This is the official tourism organization and they have the up-to-date availability. The area is beautiful in winter, as you are on an altitude above the cloud layer covering the lower parts of Switzerland almost during all the winter months, so you are in the sun and in a crisp dry air when below the clouds everything is humid and foggy. This is the reason so many people spend their time in the mountains in winter.

10. Re: Bernina Express

Thank you very much for all the infor. I have actually firmed up my trip. Have bought my air-tickets and paid deposit for our accomodation and First Class Swiss Pass through an agent operating in Switzerland.

Now the said Agent has confirmed that there won't be Bernina Express service on 27th December 2013. So I will have to go to Lugano by another route, I believe Palm Express.I have checked SBB schedule between St.Moritz and Lugano. Although the schedule for 27th Dec. 2013 is not out, I just want to understand them first so that I won't have difficulties later on. Unfortunately I am very confused by the schedule. Can someone please assist by explaining them to me: I reproduce the schedule here for discussion.

Kindly advise whether RE1128 and ICN 10015 are Trains or Buses ? I don't really understand what is stated in the schedule. Does it mean we have to take RE1124 (I guess a train) from platform 2 of St.Moritz Train Station (as We will be staying at Monopol Hotel, kindly advise the name of the station to take the train) at Platform 2. The train will stop at Thusis train station. Then we have walk to Thusis Bahnhof ( I assume that must be a bus station) to take Bus 13 to Bellinzona Stazione ( a bus station). From Bellinzona Stazione we have to walk to Bellinzone, a train station to take train ICN10015 to Lugano..How far is the train station from the bus station?

We would have big luggages as we will be in Switzerland for 11 days. We will have to carry the luggages up and down trains and buses.

Thank you.
