farms with cows grazing on the hillside in the area

I will stay in St. Moritz for 2 days starting tomorrow. Will there be any farm with cows grazing on the hillside in the area ? We are interested in visiting one of these farms arount St. Moritz if there are any. Thanks.

You can't miss them, there are so many. All around St, Moritz is a farming area. There are most small farms with just few cows, nothing like in e.g. US and Canada. You will hear where the cows are because they wear bells. Just go to any farm (beware of the dog) and ask to visit. Some of them do sell their products as well. At the moments, almost all the cows are still in the lower areas, as we had a late spring. Later on they will be moved to the alps. If you are interested in alp cheese making, go to Morteratsch, there is a cheese making alp right in the middle of pastures. Take the train to the tiny train station Morteratsch and follow the signs. alpschaukäserei morteratsch pontresina

Thanks very much Engadiner for the great advice. I did managed to take a few shots of cows grazing in a small farm a the junction of the main road leading to Sils. I also went to the cheese place you mentioned today and bought a small sampling of their cheese.

Glad you liked it - at the moments there are cows almost everywhere, as they start to assemble them to bring them to the alps this or next week.

Another thing that could interest you: in Switzerland even cows go for a vacation. Many of the cows you will see the coming days, mainly the larger herds, have been brought here by big transporters (the ones with the small window slits below the roof and with a strong smell) from the lower parts of Switzerland. The cows will pass the summer here on the alps, grazing the healthy "powerfood" grass in the mountains and breathing in the god mountain air. Most alps - at least the ones with the cows (not the ones with the mother cows with baby calfs - attention, do not go near them, as the mothers are very agressively protecting their offsprings and there are a lot of incidents with hikers and bikers) - are cheese-producing cooperatives. Farmers pay for their cattles "mountain holidays" as they are much more productive after this and for many more years compared to the ones which remained at their farm.
