Bernina Express options

Hi,

I'm planning the next summer holidays in Switzerland (Chur, St, Moritz) and consider to take one day trip with Bernina Expres (including return to the place of staying) Could you advise me, please which part of the route is the most picturesque? If I take a trip from St, Moritz to Tirano is there any cheaper option to return, for example by regional train?

Thank you for help.

There usually are no „cheaper“ or „more expensive“ trains in Switzerland. With a return ticket St. Moritz - Tirano you can take any train on the route. Some trains on that route have extra panoramic cars, and you pay extra for those, but not if you sit in the front of the train.

Thank you for explanation. Do you think it is possible to do return trip: St. Moritz - Tirano with a short stop in Tirano?

Yes, of course. Just consult the timetable.

Yes, we did this trip this past summer on the Bernina Express in one of the panoramic cars, . in the morning left St Moritz- Tirano, once in Tirano had about 2 hrs before the Bernina Express train did the return journey to St Moritz, back by 4-5p(, I can't remember exactly), so definitely possible for a daytrip.

I can't talk to the comparison but you might look here at a description: http://tinyurl.com/ybb7zdjx.

You could take a bus one-way and that is probably cheaper.

The route to Tirano includes a remarkable spiral loop bridge, in Brussio, specifically designed with scenery in mind.

Google: "BERNINA BUS LUGANO to TIRANO" for a TripAdvisor review. More info and great pics: http://tinyurl.com/y8wxrkea.

Hello,

Thank you very much.

We'd like to leave a car in Tirano or St. Moritz so it's a must to have a return trip.

Perhaps, you know what the difference is in booking the trip online via https://www.rhb.ch and

https:/…fahrplan.xhtml ?

The price by "sbb" is about 30 CHF single and the same route on Rhb more than twice. I'm a little bit confused.

Do you have any experiences here?

I'm puzzled. Maybe they trips are different levels of service? I'd go with the cheapest, of course.

You need a reservation on the Bernina Express.

I love SSB's app for smart phones. For droids, in the Google Play Store, look for SSB Mobile. It is great for looking at iteneraries, booking, and even following one's route thru the Alps - scenic trains have WiFi. Be aware that it's on-train service only, not the world wide web.

TravelRog, I think you mean SBB (not SSB)!
