Rail from Zermatt to Murren

Hi All

We have decided to spend the first week of our honeymoon in Zermatt, then travel to Murren for our second week by rail. Could anyone advise: -

1. on the best site to obtain a ticket

2. which ticket/rail pass we would need that would encompass any trips we wanted to do whilst staying.

....... or any other advise you think relevant that could help us!

We have not yet decided where to spend our last week, after Murren ..... we wanted somewhere warm with a pool, but not sure where we can get to from Murren that would be good in Sept?

Thanks once again in advance.

You have not outlined your complete itinerary but one option for a rail pass that would be valid between Zermatt and Mürren and in the Interlaken area would be the Regional-Pass Berner Oberland. regiopass-berneroberland.ch/engl/ticket.html

A map is at regiopass-berneroberland.ch/engl/ticket.html

The pass is however rather expensive when compared to point-to-point tickets but would be a money saver if used extensively.

The one-way fares from Zermatt to Mürren are 136.40 CHF in 1st class and 92.80 CHF in 2nd class.

Not a real expert on this area but if you will be doing any traveling during the week you are in Zermatt as well as the week in Murren a Swiss pass might be a good buy. It covers most travel in the whole country and gives you a discount on the private mountain railways that aren't covered completely. I know you have to purchase it before leaving the US but I can't remember the web sit. Maybe one of the others here can help.

Hi 1beanf,

You can't be travelling a lot while in Zermatt (except uphill) or Murren, or in a pool in warmer places like Ticino. So I think a half-fare card should be the best bet. Buy in on arrival - at airport or rail station. A couple of mountain excursions will earn you back the cost of the card.
