Where to stay in Lucerne

We will be in Lucerne for one night and a day. Is there any particular part of the town that is best to stay in? We will be relying on trains and public transportation.

Hi.. its better to stay near main train station... you may also look for hotel in old town near chapels bridge but you have to walk a little from train station.

We stayed in Renaissance near train station and it was very good....you can take cruise/trains whenever you want.

Hi traveltrio03

There are hotels around the railway station, there are many in and around the old town and river Reuss and there are some in the suburbs (Meggen, Kastanienbaum) which are connected with the railway station by bus (15 minutes ride).

On www.luzern.com you can find all hotels and other accomodation of Lucerne and surrounding.

Happy planing

Thank you! We assume Old Town is where we want to see the sights - so if we stay near the train station can we cab or bus it to Old Town? We will be there one night. Thank you!

The old town is close to the railway station (just cross the bridge in front of it and turn left and there you are). Many hotels are there. Just look for the ones around river Reuss. Also from the hotelss around the railway station it is a 10 to 15 minutes walk to the old town. Lucerne is very compact.

There are buses to and from hotels which are a bit outside. To find out input from "Lucerne" or "Lucerne Bahnhofplatz" (means Lucerne railway station) to "your destination, Adress of your hotel" and it will guide you (as a tourist told once: it guides you nearly to your door).

Since you are not going in the summer the Monopol is situated great. Its right next to the bahnhoff and some great museums and an easy w alk to the old town. Never stay there in the summer...no AC and you have to leave you windows open and the drunks in the bars in the neighborhood keep you awake til well after 4 am.

I am glad to hear that about the Monopol since that is where I am booked on October 19-21. I had also read reviews about no A/C and the noise.
