Day trip from Lucerne

Hello,

We will be spending 3 days in Lucerne. One day touring Lucerne, one day trip to Mount Pilatus...any suggestions for day #3? Would Zermatt be too difficult/far? Thank you.

Hi aztecs,

Yes, Zermatt is too far; it's more than three hours in each direction. That waaay too far for a day-trip.

I suggest you simply enjoy the atmosphere and the local activities from Luzern. Besites Pilatus, there is Titlis and Engelberg, its village. There are also the lakeside villages of Weggis & Vitznau that you can get to by lake ferry. And of course there's also Rigi. You can go on a hike, or just find a mountaintop restaurant and soak up the views!

Have fun!

If it is a nice day, you can do a wonderful loop to the top of Rigi by boat, cablecar, and train: going clockwise, it would be train to Arth-Goldau, mountain train up to the top of Rigi; train (or hike) down to Rigi Kaltbad, cablecar down to the lake at Weggis, and ride the boat back.

You can stop for lunch and walks at the tip (Rigi Kulm) or partway down (Rigi Kaltbad).
