Driving from Italy to lucerne, and onto Strasborg Dec

Hi, we are travelling back from Greece early December. So we land in Italy on 6 Dec and want to go up to parma, and then onto lucerne. Will the roads be bad, is the weather snowy? Will the gotthard and other tunnels be open in December, and if not what route do we take.

We have a 4x4, so no problems just want to be prepared.

Our trip is Senigallia to Parma, Parma to Lucerne, Lucerne to Strasbourg, Strasbourg to Calais. Hotels already booked, although any advice always welcome.

Thanks

Jane

Hi,

You'll probably be too early for the snow, but if there is some the tunnels will normally be open (built to keep links open when the pass is closed). If you are not too pushed for time and the pass is open though it's worth the extra hour to go over the pass and see the mountains.

PS from Strasbourg to Calais I recommend to take the motorway via Metz, Luxembourg and Charleroi. The distance is +/- the same but you save the tolls and can get a very cheap tank of fuel in Luxembourg.
