Train Geneva to Milan?

Hi,

Hope you dont mind me posting about this topic as i know its come up a few years ago but wanted to get some up to date information.

We want to get the train from Geneva to Milan - how long does this take, cost and is it direct? Does it benefit to get your ticket in advance?

Also where is the best place to get the information on times?

Thank you so much in advance :-)

You can find all the information (trains, prices, buying the tickets) on the following webiste of the Swiss Federal Railways: http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html

There are three direct trains a day, which take you to Milano in 4 hours and should not cost more than 100 CHF. There are no discounts when buying your ticket earlier. Depending on what else you will do, a trainpass like EURAIL for Europe would be an option.

Among the "Top Questions (top right of this page), there is a "Where to buy a train ticket in Geneva" topic. From there you can go to tripadvisor.com/Travel-g188057-c192373/Genev…

For the rest, biddingpoints already replied. Finally, direct trains are "Pendolinos". In English it is translated "tilting". Some travellers have issues with this.

All the trains from Geneva to Milan require a seat reservation... and this is included in your ticket when you get it. Since the trains are usually quite full it is a good idea to get the ticket as soon as you can.

Sometimes using the Trenitalia site gets you a cheaper fare than the SBB one... www.trenitalia.com
