Park in France and walk

We will be driving in from the Ain countryside on A40 for a short visit to Geneva, concentrating on the old town. Could we please get some advice on a safe place to park where we could walk across the border and catch a tram to the centre of the city?

If you're in the Ain, and really don't want to cross the border by car, I would suggest leaving the car in Ferney-Voltaire and catching bus F into Geneva. It runs from the centre of Ferney, so there are several locations to catch it from and of the trans-frontier buses it has the most frequent service (some of the buses go out as far as Gex).

Further South, near St. Genis, the trams go out as far as CERN, but that's still a walk from the border.

Suggest you look at the website of the Geneva transport http://www.unireso.ch to look at the route network and timetables and see what suits you best.

Is there a good reason for you not to cross the border by car? The public transport network is considerably denser once you've crossed the border.
