Basel in 3 hour

Hi, I will have 3 hours in basel since I have to catch my train in Zurich HB (the 3 hour is net, excluding 1 hour trip from Basel SBB to Zurich HB).

It is possible within this time to see BIS HQ near Basel SBB then walking to Basel Munster and Mittlere Brucke? If so, are there any must seen destination around Basel SBB that I can visit?

Many thanks for your reply.

Actually you can see quite a lot.

The BIS is outside the station, you can only look at it of course.

Then take tram number 8, direction Kleinhünningen.

Stay all the way until the end, you will see a lots of Basel. Take again the same tram, opposite direction and get off at Marktplatz. Walk around there, Go up the Münster, walk around a bit, go to Barfüsserplatz and then either take the same tram back to the station or walk there.

Tak

Hi Tak, thank you for your advice.

I decided to stay in Basel for 1 night and it will be nice if I can take a city tour as you recommend.

Thanks again

I want to thank you as I have the same questions. On Oct 8th we are disembarking from a river boat in the early morning and will take a train to Zürich. So we will only have about 3 hours. We can leave our luggage at the ship and return to pick it up before going to the train station. Your idea of the tram is exactly the kind of information I was seeking. Is there anything else you would advise? Or would you opt for taxi's from site to site?

Many thanks!

I would rather leave the luggage in a locker in the station - the docks are not exactly convenient to the city center.

taxis is not a good idea, most of basel is pedestrian and taxis cost quite a pretty penny.

I think, you should get out at Marktplatz and walk around there. Go up to Lohnhof, down to Barfüsserplatz then to the Münster and then down the Rheinsprung, cross the bridge (mitlere Brücke) and take the tram back to the station.

use this map, it is very good to get your bearings and see the tram stops.

hope this helps and the weather is good. Post again nearer your time please: there are works around Basel at the moment and the trams drive any odd way :) Of course by then it will be over, but just in case.

I am sorry, but what do you mean? What time to leav the hostel in the morning for the station?

Around 06:30.
