Tickets for Basel trams and buses

How much does a day ticket cost on the Basel tram and bus network?

Does a 3-day ticket also exist?

I believe I am right in saying that the Black Forest KONUS-Gästekarte is not valid on Basel trams and buses, but is valid on regional trains between Germany and Basel. Is this correct?

The Konus card is not valid within Basel, only until the railway station.

Is there a requirement to have separate tickets for the green trams and for the yellow trams? (Presumably they are operated by different companies)

They are, but what does it matter? A ticket is issued for a zone, not for a company. Being in Germany often I am sure you are familiar with the idea of a Tarifverbund...

I do indeed spend a lot of time in Germany and I am very familiar with the German Verkehrsverbünde, but every country is different. In the UK, for example, you often have to buy separate tickets for different transport companies.

The ticketing for public transport in Germany (and, as it is now clear to me, Switzerland) is outstanding in a way that encourages its use by making it affordable, unlike in the UK. The Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket and the Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket offered by Deutsche Bahn are probably the best value tickets in Europe with which you can travel across the entire country (albeit with regional trains); I don't know if such a ticket is available in Switzerland. Then there is the greatest bargain I have ever come across, namely the KONUS-Gästekarte of the Black Forest region. The UK would do well to incorporate some of these ideas into its public transport network.

It does not matter whether you are using a yellow or green tram or bus.

The TNW network area also includes trains in the area.

are you going to stay in basel? in a hotel or similar?

then you will be getting a free card from the hotel, for all the duration of your stay, which is valid on all trams and buses within the area(also theyelow trams ones).

If you are going to travel outside the Basel area with one of the yellow BUSES (belong to Post) then it is better to clear it up first with the driver.

some sites to have a look at:

basel.ch/en/…oeffentlicherverkehr.htm

www.bvb.ch/en/tickets-fares/standard-fares

have a good time in Basel

Tak
