Hotel in Zermat

My husband and I are planning a ski trip to Zermat for his 40th birthday this March. We would like to stay somewhere nice, with modern amenities and that is convenient to the slopes. Recommendations appreciated!

Hi, Zermatt is a small village so none of the hotels is terribly far from the lift stations. The skiing is divided into three areas each with a lift from the village. At the north end, is the Sunegga funicular (basically a subway up the hill), the Gornergrat Railway (its so cool to ride a train to ski) is more or less in the middle right by the main train station and, at the south end (closest to the Matterhorn) is the Matterhorn Paradise lift system which includes the access to the Italian side (did you know you can ski Cervinia, Valtourneche, etc. from Zermatt?). The three areas are interconnected once you are on the hill.

I have stayed at the Hotel Antares for 30 years for several reasons. The first year it was the location (about 50 steps from the Matterhorn Paradise lift station) and the fact that all the rooms on the south side have private balconies with unobstructed views of the Matterhorn. After the first year, it became the hospitality and the food. The chef is well known and dinners are just fantastic (you usually want to take half board as restaurants are expensive and half board meals are very often equal if not better than many of the restaurants for half the price. You can always tell the hotel in advance that you will be eating out and they will usually make a deduction in your bill. The hotel has a wellness center. You can take a look on the hotel website

Zermatt has a high standard for hotels so anywhere you choose will be clean and comfortable with amenities going up as the number of stars goes up. You can check lots of hotels on the village website

Hope this helps you to get started!
