Getting from Siena train station to the town + must sees

We are going to Tuscany next week and are hoping to visit Siena via train. I understand that the train station is not located close to the centre and was hoping for advice on how to get into the centre. I'm sure I read somewhere about an escalator into a shopping centre then walking there but I can't find it now

Also any advice on what should be seen in a day would be most helpful (we are going with our 3 year old twins)

Thanks

That makes sense - thanks.

Thank you Bonnie GM - the info about the La Lizza Park is great
