The difficulty is getting a place with a swimming pool inside the walls of a town. Most places with pools are outside the walls, though I am sure someone will know of some place suitable. The only place I know is Il Cassero in the small village of Lucignano which has a pool and also apartments in the medieval walls of the town. It is a small village however, and may have only three or four restaurants.

I stayed in a small village last summer called Orciatico, about a 25 min drive from San Gimignano, 15 from Volterra, it was wonderful, there is a very good restaurant there too, I could drink my wine and walk home. The locals were so very friendly which made my stay more enjoyable! I found my apartment on www.ownersdirect.co.uk. I didn't have a pool but there were apartments with pools. You could also check out the owners website which is <http://www.tuscany-orciatico.it.gg>.
