There is little point in booking in advance. Many of the journeys use local (Regionale) trains all the way, and these trains have no seat reservations (so tickets cannot sell out) and no discounts.

Even on journeys that use a Frecciabianca between Pisa and La Spezia, the discount available on this short journey is only a few euros.

Buy the tickets in Pisa.

In addition to the Regionale trains costing €8.60 and the more expensive journeys using a Frecciabanca, all of which require a change of train, there are also some direct Intercity trains from Pisa Centrale to Monterosso with seat reservations which can be booked in advance. These are a good way to go. However the Intercity trains cost €11.50 on the day of travel and the cheapest advance fare is €9, so it is still not really worth restricting yourself to one specific train by making an advance booking.

See www.trenitalia.com clicking the UK flag first and entering your 'hour' of departure e.g. enter '13' for 13.00. To see Regionale fares you must use a date this week.
