Coastal location near Pisa

We want to travel as a family to somewhere near Pisa on the coast. Ideally being able to travel from Pisa to our base by train. Any ideas?

You may try many different places from Pisa. As already suggested Viareggio is easy to reach by train. From Pisa, by bus you can go to Tirrenia and Marina di Pisa. Alternatively, you may consider the coast south of Pisa: Quercianella, Castiglioncello (but there are not sandy beaches).

From Pisa you can also reach the scenic Cinque Terre by train.

We'd throw in our 2cw for Cecina, south of Livorno. Beautiful, sandy beaches, with -- sometimes -- actual waves.
