wiring money for accommodations from us to italy

We would like to stay at the Relais Sassetti (a small B&B) in Pisa and they require a 30% down payment at booking with remainder to be paid in cash in Pisa. Evidently you must wire the money internationally. I have never done this. Has anyone had experience with this? Where do you go to wire the money?

I had to wire a down payment for an apartment in Venice a few years ago. I used Xoom - an online service. At the time it seemed to be the least expensive for me, after looking into Western Union, etc. Although, you might be able to check with your bank as well to see if they can do it directly and how they compare fee-wise. I was kind of nervous about wiring money when I did it, since we don't do that here in the States very often. My european husband has since told me that wiring money is very common in Europe.

Your bank is the first place to look. The bank I use in the US allows interbank transfers from within the on-line account management interface. Never use Western Union to send money to anyone except someone you know personally because there's no paper trail and no recourse if anything goes wrong.

PayPal offers the service (bank account to bank account) if the recipient has the PayPal account. Fees are very cheap (0.5% of transferred amount)
