We are going to Pisa for a few days and would like to spend 1 day at the beach. We have to rely on public transport so which beach would you recommend Tirrenia, Viareggio or Forte dei Marmi and what is the best way of getting there?

By Train

Pisa - Viareggio about 15 min.

Pisa - Forte dei Marmi about 30 min.

Tirrenia is much closer to Pisa, they also have a public free beach there as well. Viareggio will cost you a little more than Tirrenia as far as a spot with an umbrella.

No there is no train from pisa, but the bus station is near the central train station and busses run fairly regularly through Tirrenia. You should not have any problem with getting back and forth from Tirrenia to Pisa, but the busses stop running I believe around 10 pm.
