Car/driver Hire to Florence

Arriving Livorno June 18, 2006 on Brilliance of the Seas. Need info on dependable, knowledgeable driver/guide to hire so we maximize the one day we have in the area. We are primarily interested in Florence. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I found out 2 options for you:

1) Van renting company, I have not personally worked with them, but a friend of mine has and she said they are reliable. 9 hours tour Pisa&Florence:7 people, van+driver would cost from roughly 450/500e.

Info at: www.bus.it/autonoleggio.new/contatipobus.php…

2)Free lance tourist assistent ( friend of mine) with his own private car and driver 8.30-17.00 Pisa and Florence: 2 people: roughly 230/250e total

info at: mytuscany@libero.it

I've done a couple cruises before. I have used the 'cruise company' for my day outing in Florence and a personal driver. I preferred the personal driver as we stopped for anything we desired, even a photo. You are welcome to contact her www.youritalianconcierge.com I have friends who have only used the cruise company tours. They say it is the best way to see everything in such limited time and plus the cruise tour gives a bit of history, knowledge, etc.... FYI

We just returned from a Mediterranean cruise & Livorno was one of our day stops. This is a little review of our driver guide named Alessandro Cammilli. We had read about him on one of the Trip Advisor forums & also he was highly recommended on a Cruise Critic forum. He is excellent! Alessandro is very personable, reliable, speaks very good English & we highly recommend him. He drives a new European mini van that comfortably seats 4 other passengers. We corresponded via e-mail: alecamma @ hotmailcom, Our day with Alessandro: He met the 4 of us punctually (holding up a sign with our name) as we disembarked the Golden Princess at 7:30 a.m. Our planned itinerary included visiting Florence & then Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. Allesandro surprised us with also a visit to a historic leather school where his family had once worked, to the Tuscany wine countryside to see a delightful working winery & family farm for lunch, and he took us to amazing picturesque spots for photo ops. We were gone 10 1/2 hours & he delivered us back to our ship in plenty of time to board. He charged only 300 euros for the day. Allesandro is in law enforcement & so besides being our driver, we also felt quite safe with our own bodyguard so to speak. Some of our itinerary: the Scuola del Cuoio Leather School attached to Santa Maria Croce Church (Princess Di & several famous celebrities have been customers there), Michelangelo's David & other outstanding artworks in the Accademia Gallery, jewelry shops along Ponte Vecchio, Piazza del Duomo, La Cattedrale de S.M. del Fiore, the Baptistere, the Palazzo Vecchio, shopping (& he helped carry our packages), breathtaking views of Florence, the Leaning Tower of Pisa & so much more. In the countryside we were taken to a family farm, the "Fattoria di Montagliari" in Panzo in Chianti where olive oil is pressed & Chianti Classico is made. We ate in their family restaurant & the food was excellent. We purchased some brandy & olive oil there to take home. Alessandro is from Florence & is very knowledgeable of that city and its surroundings. We absolutely plan in the future to hire him again to show us more of beautiful Tuscany!

Great description of your trip to Livorno... I was wondering whether the 300 euros was per person or split between the four of you?

I Also have a question about the excursion... did it include any cost into the various places you visited?

Thanks,

Giovanni Sirabella specialises in shore excursions from Livorno. He's a very nice man and a careful driver - used to be a cruise ship purser but was purser on the Achille Lauro so after that he decided a land job might be a good idea. His cars and minibus are air conditioned: www.sunflower-tours.com
