We'll arrive on a cruise and would like to go to Florence for a day.

Could anyone give us some information?

Thank you

Try the English version:

www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp…

Fares for Regionale trains only appear seven days in advance. It is 6.70 Euro one way.

And use a date before June 12 when schedules change, as later dates are not yet available though will have similar times.

You should know that tons of taxis hover whenever a cruise ship comes in, and you can either take one, or take the city bus (you can buy bus tickets on board; perhaps your concierge on the cruise ship has them and you can buy them before boarding). If you take the city bus, do remember to "frank" your bus ticket -- i.e., insert the ticket into a machine (usually at the front of any Livorno bus) which will save you a huge fine if a conductor decides to come 'round and check to see whether or not you have a validated ticket.

The schedule right now has trains leaving every hour (the "fastest" regionale train means stops in Pisa, Pontedera, Empoli, Lastra a Signa, Firenze Rifredi -- DO NOT GET OFF THERE! -- and Firence Santa Maria Novella; whereupon you alight; there's also a slower, milk-run train which you should try to avoid if at all possible). Travel on Sundays has more limited service. Do check closer to when you travel, and again, do please remember to punch your ticket. Conductors seem more likely than not to check tickets when cruise folk are on board (and we know this because we've seen it all too often).
