1. Use http://www.fsitaliane.it/homepage_en.html entering Florence and the specific Cinque Terre village you are heading for, e.g. Monterosso, as they all have stations. Fares for many journeys are NA online more than seven days in advance, so use a date this week.

2. On the same website, enter a village and Venice. From Monterosso, the best route is via Milan with one change of train in Milano Centrale and travelling in reserved seats all the way. From the other villages, the fastest route is usually via Florence. A third route is via Parma and Bologna - you may see more of these if you click the 'all solutions' options.

You can also use www.trenitalia.com for this, but must enter Italian names for stations e.g. Firenze S M Novella and Venezia S. Lucia.

good info from perilizia.....i prefer the route via Milano as it is very simple and easy to negotiate but is contingent on getting to your prefered village.
