Need some help

Me and my wife are on our honeymoon right now. We have a villa until Monday, but will still be around until Friday. We would like to split those next few days between Florence and Siena. We are debating getting a hotel because we don't know what to do about parking. We have a rental car and if we leave it in a lot in Florence it is 40 euros.

What are the parking options some of you know about? Actually how and where do you park in Siena?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hotel Palazzo Ravizza in Siena has free car parking: http://www.palazzoravizza.it/

You have to give the hotel the car registration number when you check-in which they pass on to the authorities so that you won't be fined when passing the ZTL cameras.

Stay here...it is close to Siena, Cortona and Arezzo. Parking is not an issue at all and it is gorgeous.

Do not even *think* of trying to drive in central Florence. The whole city centre is prohibited for visitors' cars and this is enforced by cameras. There are countless posts from people who have accidentally driven in this area, or in a bus lane, and have been hit with multiple €100 fines months later.

Stay somewhere outside Florence and use public transport to visit the city.

Why not have two nights at the Palazzo Ravizza in Siena and then two nights in Fiesole (check out the Pensione Bencista but there are many more). You'd get free parking at your Fiesole hotel and you could take the number 7 bus down into the city, takes about 25 mins and is a frequent service. Many hotels in Florence city centre will arrange parking for you, some of the more reliable garages will even ensure your ZTL entry is negated, but you'd still have to pay the daily parking charge, which as you know is around Euros 40. Oh and Fiesole is not just a convenient place to stay, it's also a very beautiful one.

Hey thank you for your help. After some discussion we are actually going to stay in the villa for the majority of the trip, but planning to stay in the hotel in Siena for the last day. It is really a good jumping off point as we are in Castellina.

Our hostess suggested we take a bus into Florence but we forgot the name of the station. Does anyone now won't that is close? I may also put this as a big post to the forum.
