Uffizi book for early May; Pre-book Pitti?

We called for reservations for Uffizi for May 2 or 3 and have learned it is completely booked. The very nice ticket agent sugegsted we call a week before as reservatiosn are often cancelled.

While we'll miss touring Uffizi if we cannot get in, we'll visit Pitti Palace instead. Is pre-booking recommended? Thanks.

Not really necessary. Unless the 2nd and third are weekend days - and then it might be crowded, seeing as how the 1st is a holiday and many tourist might wish to extend their stay.

The Pitti Palace, especially the Palatina Gallery, is a good alternative to the Uffizi. Wonderful rooms, with master works by Raphael, Titian, and a host of other Italian artists, Van Dyck, Rubens. The San Marco Museum is worth a visit too, Fra Angelico paintings, original monks' cells from his time, and the Renaissance library founded by Cosimo Medici all in the same building!

Thanks to you both. We'll continue to try for Uffizi but it does seem Pitti Palace would be a great alternative. Thanks again.
