restaurant advice taormina

Heading to Taormina 10 October with friend. Can anyone tell us some of their favorite dining choices and why. Been here before, but always on the lookout for new/better food. Thanks

We have just returned from 5 wonderful days in Taormina. Our favourite restaurant by far was Vicolo Stretto by Charly PH: +39 0942 24995 located off the main street. Excellent service and the food outstanding. You will be amused by the access, has to be the narrowest street in the world. We also found Al Duomo restaurant to be good, located by the Duomo, but not as good as Vicolo Stretto. Buon Appetito! Karen from Sydney, Australia

Just returned from 5 nights in Taormina and can recommend you the following places: Granduca (Corso Umberto) lovely setting and food with excellent service, seemd popular with locals and tourist alike. Granduca has a pizza restaurant (once inside down the steps to a terrace below) and the main restaurant so you could try both, we did! Al Duomo is also very good. May I suggest you don't try "Al Paladino" the wait to be served was sooooooooo long, the food average and it appeared only tourist ate there. Have fun in Taormina

Just got back 10 days ago - lots of good restaurants, prices aren't as high as some comments would lead you to believe. Starters 6-10 Euros, mains 10-20 Euros, local wine 8-10 Euros. Try La Botte, Ristorante la Busa and Laurelea.

Only bad experience in Taormina was at the Grand Duca where the staff were rude, threw a hissy fit when we were reading the menu and didn't hear the waiter arrive, insulted my wife because she declined to buy a bottle of water, and were so into their own egos that we just got up and left them to it, so no idea what the food was like.

Some friends with whome we had dinner last Friday told us they had a similar experience in the same restaurant. The staff out "snob" the well heeled clientele.

This is SO much the exception, everyone else was so charming give this pseudo trendy place a miss and you won't go wrong.

I would recommend the Trocadero restaurant near the Messina gate. The pizza was very good.

Walk along the Corso Umberto and drop into any restaurant that has a view of the sea - the menus in Taormina's restaurants are very similar as are the prices...moderate. A typical dish is Pasta ala Norma. We had a memorable dinner in the Granduca and the service was just wonderful. Be sure to visit the numerous gourmet shops in town and get pistachio nut butter, dried tuna fish eggs, pastries and liquors to bring home - try La Bottega di Lagana on Lagana Francesco...Visit the top hotels in town to see their grounds and views by ordering a drink.

Trattoria Siciliana (Giovanni's) at the Catania Gate end of Corso Umberto. Fresh, prepared daily, many seafood dishes, very reasonably priced, has outside and inside seating. We stay in Taormina between one to two weeks every year and this is a place that we return to several times during our stays.

I would really recommend Mama Rosa's, especially their pesce spada... Love it...
